DIY Solar Power

There is a home in my hometown that uses a lot of diy solar power, and has for as long as I can remember. This is not something very common in the area, and that led to stories stating that the person who owns the home was someone who worked to invent the solar panel. While I doubt very much that the story is true, it is neat to look at the house.

They must save a lot each year on energy, and I can’t imagine why more homes are not built like this.

Diy solar power is free, for the most part. All you have to do is to buy the panels to capture the energy. Though these might not be cheap, in the long run they will save a ton of money, and are also great for the environment.

It might be hard to run the average house on diy solar power all of the time, but having a just some of your power coming from the sun can be money saving. More and more companies and homes are using them now, but it has taken a while for diy solar power to really catch on.

The problem that some have with diy solar power is the light. You do have to have direct sunlight to capture the sunlight, obviously. If you live in a very shaded area, the last thing you probably want to do is to cut down some trees to get the sunlight.

That’s not necessary. You can have your panels a bit away from your home, and though it is not quite as convenient, it does work. The best placement nets the most power, but they can capture more than you need, and some energy can be saved for when the sun is not up.

Adding diy solar power to an existing home is going to cost more than putting it into a new home, but that shouldn’t stop you from doing so. It will still save money in the long run, and will be something you are glad you did.

Diy solar powered electricity isn’t perfect, but it is far better for the earth. Diy solar power, combined with wind power, might help to keep things a little more green on our planet. Every little bit that any person does has a bigger impact than they might think. If everyone used just a little diy solar power, the world would be a different place.

Harnessing Solar and Wind Power

When you see windmills what comes to your mind? Do you think of the Dutch countryside scattered with these structures? Do you think of the windmill-fighting Don Quixote, the fictional Spanish nobleman?

Whatever comes to your mind, one thing is true; solar and wind power is now a reality in many places. After decades of neglect, windmills are being adapted and changed in design to allow them to produce the needed energy that is so vital for life in the 21st century.

Although used to turn a grinding stone that would be used to obtain flour for bread, wind mills are being for a completely different purpose today – to produce electricity through solar and wind power. In California, there are more than 16,000 wind turbines that are run by windmills with huge rotor blades.

The exploration of solar and wind power is not a new concept. Early, humans have always sailed the oceans even before the advent of the engines. Ships are driven by wind and for centuries, humans have used solar and wind power to pump water and saw wood.

Today, they are still used to pump water where power outages occur. In the 20th century the ease with which fossil fuels could be harnessed and the resultant greater power from these resources pushed solar and wind power to the back seat. In the years following the use of fossil fuels, it seemed that this form of fuel was cheap ad plentiful and thus easily eclipsed wind solar power. However, the 173 oil crisis changed the viewpoint of many and since then, wind solar power again came to light and has done that ever since.

From an environmental point of view, wind solar power clearly stands out and has taken on a new appeal. Wind and sunlight being inexhaustible were thus seen as the best alternative. In addition, they are also much easier on the environment and do not produce fearful weather and climate phenomenon as is seen with fossil explorations.

Wind energy produces no chemical emissions whatsoever making it one of the most user-friendly alternative energy resources out there. So how much energy can a wind turbine produce? Wind energy varies as a cube of the wind speed. This means that when the speed of the wind doubles, the power provided is 8 times more.

You can therefore see why a small increase in solar and wind power can result in a massive boost of energy output. This is called the Cube law. To take advantage of the law, wind turbines are placed on hilltops where wind accelerates as it passes. Wind is just one of the many alternative energy sources that may preserve our environment from the effects of fossil fuels.

18v Power Tools – The Benefits of Li-ion Batteries

The technology that is being used in cordless power tools has come on quickly over the last few years. First off NiMH batteries mainly replaced Ni-Cad batteries in cordless power tools, and now NiMH batteries are being gradually replaced by new Lithium-ion (Li-ion for short) batteries within the industry. Most of the big tool brands are now employing 18v Li-ion batteries in their cordless power tools. One such brand is Makita, whose 18v power tools are setting the pace for other manufacturers in the use of this battery advancement.

Li-ion batteries have been used in other electronic devices for a while, for example laptop computer batteries, but is only recently that they have become popular in cordless power tools. It is a beneficial advancement to the building and DIY trades as Li-ion battereis offer many advantages over other batteries. The new 18v power tools offer benefits to both professional tradespeople and people who do DIY at home or as a hobby, alike.

One of the greatest benefits of a Lithium-Ion battery cordless power tool is the fast charging time. A Li-ion battery can completely re-charge in about 15-20 minutes using a rapid charger, whereas a Ni-Cad battery takes a couple of hours, often longer, and even NiMH batteries take a long time to charge.

One more advantage of Li-ion batteries is they retain their power rather than losing it over time like Ni-Cad and NiMH batteries. If you charged a NiMH battery and left it for several weeks it would probably have no charge left when you came to use it so you’d need to charge it before you could use it.

Li-ion batteries also often come in twos so you can work all day without ever having to wait for one to charge. They have another advantage over older batteries also, in that they are incredibly light considering the amount of power they offer. This makes them easy to use, even for less experienced people who are less used to holding up heavy tools for periods of time. Unless you are really strong and fit holding a tool at eye level for a long time can really hurt.

The future of cordless power tools seems to be Lithium-ion battery 18v power tools, as they have so many advantages over more traditional battery powered tools. Many professionals are using 18v power tools already and it looks certain that hobbyists and home DIY-ers will follow suit to get all the benefits of this technology.

Who Cares How Solar Panel Works, As Long As It Does

Every month, you have certain bills you pay, hopefully, if you re a tax paying citizen of society. One of these essential bills is a major one and it goes to the electric company.

That s why many want to know how solar power works, because they ve heard it can save them a lot of money.

This check that you pay, or electronic submission if that s how you pay your bills, is your charge for using electricity to power your alarm clock for waking up in the morning, the electricity to power your stove for cooking your breakfast and the electricity to power your water heater so that you can have a warm shower to wake up to. And let s not forget about the coffee maker.

This, folks, only covers the morning. Think about all the electricity you use throughout the day. Your lights, your computer, your television and entertainment peripherals, and other electronic items, take up a lot of juice and much of your paycheck goes to a company who provides it.

What if you could stop paying the electric company once and for all? That s right, you could potentially save hundreds of dollars every month by switching to solar energy. But many ask, how does solar power work? Who cares, as long as it does.

When you ask how solar panel works, that s like asking, How does the electric company provide electric power to my house or apartment? Who cares, as long as solar power does.

As long as you are able to get up in the morning and have to worry about start fires to warm up coffee in the morning, you would just rather have the electricity and continue to be ignorant about it.

You gladly pay that check every month because you don t want to find yourself in the dark. Anyone who has ever had their power shut off, for whatever reason, knows it s not fun.

Who cares how solar power works, just have it installed in your home and stop paying that monthly bill to the electric company. You don t ask how your television or computer works, do you? If you do, then you have a lot of free time on your hands.

Just enjoy the fact that solar power uses the power of the sun, our natural form of energy and light, and it powers your home for nothing. Stop paying that money and save it for something you want.

Electricity, and all that you do with it, is a given right to every living being and you shouldn t have to pay for it. Don t ask how solar power works, just get some solar cells and tell your electricity company that you no longer need their services. They have taken enough money from you.
